PHILHARMONIE DESIGNED BY HANS SCHAROUN.
THIS DESIGN OF THIS CONCERT IS DERIVED FROM TWO MAIN CONCEPTS THAT ARE VERY APPARENT THROUGHOUT THE BUILDING. THESE TWO CONCEPTS ARE BASED UPON NATURE AND SHIP CONSTRUCTION.THE STAGE IS CENTER "LIKE NATURE" INSTEAD OF THE OLD "SHOE BOX" MODEL WHERE THE STAGE WAS AT ONE END OF THE BUILDING. THIS WAS THE FIRST BUILDING TO HAVE A STAGE AS ITS CENTER.
SOME OF THE SHIP CONSTRUCTION METHODS WERE USED ON THESE STAIRS TO MAKE THE SUPPORT LOOK AND FEEL SIMILAR TO THE FRONT OF A SHIP AS IT MOVES THROUGH THE WATER
THE ARCHITECT BELIEVED THAT NATURE CONTINUE INSIDE BUILDINGS AND THAT EVERYTHING SHOULD NOT BE SYMMETRICAL. THIS WAS COMPLETED BY THE DIFFERENT ANGLED SUPPORT COLUMNS. ALSO THE STAINED GLASS REPRESENTED NATURE'S BALANCE OF LIGHT.
