Police and Fire Station by Sauerbruch + Hutton
Sun Shade Strategy: The building has a double skin to keep the thermal envelope from heating up.
Color Stratgey: The colors of the facade change from red to green as you move from the front to the back of the building. The red represents the fire department and the green represents the police department. For me, the changing skin color really makes this building appealing.
After lunch, we then explored various buildings throughout Berlins government district. First, we viewed The Federal Snake building. This building was used for housing government officials. The design snakes backs and forth to create courtyards and playgrounds. However, this building was considered a flop because the government officials did not want live so close to their jobs. I understand where they were coming from and also didn't help that this building wasn't too appealing to the eye( maybe its just me).
